Introducing the Unicorn of Cocktails

Last night Jeremy and I went to a "Polish" themed party going away party for one of his co-workers. Very appropriately, the party was in Greenpoint- at Jeremy's partners apartment and gorgeous rooftop.

Nicole and A-Rea are incredible hosts and always have some exotic recipe. Last night, it was some amazing cross between pigs in a blanket and pecan pie. I understand that makes no sense, but it was great.

They have cheeses displayed on cheese blocks, multiple kitchen appliances that I don't even know what they are used for, they even grow there own herbs. Swoon.

They also had Elderflower Liqueur. We were mixing it with campaign and soda water. It was so decadent and amazing tasting that it would make a Bellini sob into it's Manolos. One guy drinking it said that it felt like "We were drinking magic." I know I have kinda over-killed to the point of creepy, about my love of unicorns. But I am officially calling this drink "The Unicorn."

The Unicorn

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz Champagne or dry white wine
  • 2 oz St. Germaine elderflower liqueur
  • club soda or soda water
  • lemon twist for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Pour the liqueur and Champagne over ice.
  2. Top with club soda.
  3. Stir well.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Apparently, you can get the liqueur at normal liquor stores, it's called St. Germain. The website says it is made from elderflower, picked in the Alps. MADE FROM FLOWERS!!!! Magic!

The amazing liquor didn't stop there. I sit next to a Polish guy at work and I asked him what I should bring. He recommended I bring potatoes, cabbage, or Bison Grass Vodka.

So as you can imagine, I did not have high expectations. Nothing I have ever loved was grouped with Cabbage in the same sentence.

Jeremy and I went to 3 liquor stores to find it, but I was intrigued by the fact that each bottle has an actual piece of grass in it. We mixed it with soda water and it was incredible! The grass gives it a herb-y vanilla taste that is delicious. This is how the Polish have fun. Who knew?

The Bison

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz Bison Grass Vodka
  • club soda or soda water

TGIF. Have a great weekend, everyone.

Next up, Jenna's wedding tomorrow. And after the recent performances of myself and some of my family members I expect there to be a good story to come out of this wedding.
